Netflix’s ‘Scoop’ teaser recreates BBC’s infamous Prince Andrew interview

In case you missed it, there’s not one but two dramatisations in the works of Prince Andrew’s infamous BBC interview with Newsnight journalist Emily Maitlis — there’s one coming to Netflix and one to Prime Video.

In the 2019 interview, Prince Andrew defended his friendship with convicted paedophile and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, and responded to allegations against the prince himself made by one of Epstein’s accusers, Virginia Giuffre, with the unfathomable quote: “I didn’t sweat at the time because I had suffered what I would describe as an overdose of adrenalin in the Falklands War when I was shot at and I simply… it was almost impossible for me to sweat.”

In Netflix’s film Scoop, which dropped its first look teaser today, Prince Andrew is played by Rufus Sewell, Gillian Anderson takes on Maitlis, and Billie Piper is producer Sam McAlister, who negotiated between the studio and Buckingham Palace. The rest of the cast includes Keeley Hawes as the prince’s private secretary Amanda Thirsk and Romola Garai as Newsnight editor Esme Wren.

Directed by Philip Martin and written by Peter Moffatt and Geoff Bussetil, Scoop is based on the real McAlister’s book.

Scoop is streaming on Netflix April 5.
